Firings, Fantasy & The Best College Conference

Yes, I am alive despite what my two-month hiatus from the blog might show. Busy again is the excuse, but not a very good one. I’ll catch you up on the happenings over those months:

Watched ECU pull off two upsets, then lose three games they shouldn’t have lost, watched my Georgia bulldog’s black out backfire, watched ESPN and the Coaches mess up the polls, and drafted possibly the WORST fantasy team EVER!

So, now let’s get down to what’s happening now. The saddest news this week is obviously the firing of Tommy Bowden at Clemson. I, personally, love the man. Do I think he would have produced a national championship contender? No. He wins 7-9 games a year and beats South Carolina more than loses to them. That’s what is “normally” expected from Bowden. The downfall started when pollsters predicted the Tigers to win the ACC. That was problem number one. Their defense has obvious weaknesses, exposed in that first game or scrimmage against ‘Bama. And while they have scary backs in Davis and Spiller, they can’t get that running game going. Tommy Bowden will get another job, but until then, he can sit pretty on the millions the school will still be paying him.

Now to Fantasy football, I’ll make this short and sweet. My team is abysmal. I went with the heart and drafted Peyton Manning with the third pick in my draft. Up until this past week, that looked like a mistake. The only other good players I have are Ronnie Brown (who I benched when he went nuts two weeks ago) and Robbie Gould (how SAD is it that my KICKER is one of my best players). If my team doesn’t win this week (against my brother), I’m selling off my players to the highest bidder.

And finally, more football. All of you who think the Big 12 or the PAC 10 has the best conference are delusional. The SEC is where it’s at. Currently, there are six Big 12 teams in the Top 25 and 5 SEC teams. I think if you put those SEC teams against those Big 12 teams, they would smoke them. Two other SEC teams are receiving votes, South Carolina and Kentucky. I think from top to bottom, the SEC is just better. If Mississippi State and Arkansas are your worst teams, that is saying something. Wait till the Big 12 teams start playing and beating each other up, you’ll see. I still think more SEC teams will play in bowl games than Big 12 teams. Who do I think will play to win it all? I still think USC and Georgia are ready to claim that crown.
