“Why I’m Doing This”

Hello everyone!

I’m George Crocker, Online Producer for WNCT.com.
I thought I’d take the opportunity that this blog affords to introduce myself to you and, hopefully, let you get to know me, share with you what’s coming to the website, and offer you a behind the scenes look at Eyewitness News 9.
First, I’d like to say that I was inspired to create this blog thanks to a viewer that wrote in to our Viewers’ Voice segment this past Friday.
It had been a particularly long week with all of my regular duties plus training that took me to our capital city on Thursday. By the time I got back that evening, I was exhausted. I had gotten up at 6 after going to bed around 1:30. So, I climbed into bed around 9:30 Thursday night which is a rarity for me. I’m usually up most nights till 1 or 2 and then back at work the next day between 8 and 9.
At any rate, I was still pretty tired all day Friday and was waiting for the weekend. I really just wanted to forget about work till the next week. Hopefully, most of you can relate to that one. So, I’m sitting in our control room during the 6 o’clock broadcast, the Viewers’ Voice clipper rolls, and Annette Newell proceeds to relay what you, our viewers, had to say about our coverage this past week.
The thing that surprised me wasn’t the fact that most of you had a wide range of opinions. That’s usually par for the course and what makes the segment so great. After all, variety is the spice of life! *LOL*
Anyway, so Annette’s telling us how viewers were still riled up for and against the severe weather cut-ins a week ago, another really loves “A Place To Call Home”, someone else didn’t care for the graphic nature of the dogfighting story we did, and then, boom, she gets to John Taylor, who wrote in to tell us how much he likes to visit WNCT.com. He likes the Live VIPIR radar, our anchors, the Hurricane Calendar, and the streaming video we offer so he can keep up to date from the internet at home.
The compliments about the website just really blew me away!
Now don’t get me wrong. The folks here at the station are great and make me feel like they value the hard work I put into our site on a daily basis. And I usually get feedback from our viewers- both good and bad. But the accolades Friday just really made me feel so appreciated by all of you!
What an awesome way to end an exhausting week!
So, I’d like to give a little of that back and thank all of you for taking the time to visit our website!
All of us here at Eyewitness News 9 work really hard to put out the best newscast we can both on-air and online. And we’re proud to be “On Your Side”!
So, now that I’ve said all that, I’d like to know what you want from WNCT.com. What do you want to see more of? What do you want to see less of? What do you like about the site? What absolutely ticks you off about the site?
This is a free and open discussion… I can’t wait to hear what you have to say next!
Thanks for taking the time to read my first entry! I’ll try and tell you a little bit about how I came to Eyewitness News 9 next time.
All the best,
Geo
