It’s back to work today after a fun and eventful day interviewing more children who are waiting for a place to call home. Yesterday both myself and photo journalist Kenneth Roundtree drove to Durham to interview 6 children at the Museum of Life and Science. While I love my job and I think this new series we are doing is great, these are the times when my job gets tough. Even though I only spend a couple hours with the kids, it’s so easy to get attached to them and it’s almost like a piece of your heart stays with them. I am so impressed with how some of these kids talk like they are ten years older than they really are. I guess that’s what happens when you are forced to deal with so much more than you should be at their age. For example I interviewed one young boy yesterday who was so honest about his feelings and how sad he was that his two younger siblings were just adopted but he was still waiting in foster care. That is just one of many conversations that will probably stay with me forever. But at the end of the day it makes me feel proud and and excited that nine on your side is trying to do something about it and helping these great kids find homes. I’m now off to writing their stories and hopefully doing a good enough job that you can truly see what great kids they are.
