Late Season Hurricane

I’m Chief Meteorologist Phillip Williams.  Hurricane Paloma is churning in the Northwestern Caribbean Sea and will strike Cuba.  Hurricane season ends at the end of November and any late season storms typically form over the Northwestern Caribbean Sea where sea surface temperatures are still warm enough to support hurricanes.  Once Paloma crosses Cuba on a northeastward track, the system will encounter cooler waters and more hostile upper winds.  This will cause Paloma to weaken and then transform into a typical cold core low pressure system.  It will likely have no affect on our weather except to raise some waves later in the week.  North Carolina latest direct strike from a mojor hurricane was October 15th in the year 1954.  Do you know the name of that storm?  It started with the letter H.  Check back on this blog later and I will reveal the answer.  Take care, Phillip.
